12 Days of Christmas Gift Tags by The Birch Cottage

Do you know the origins of the song “The 12 Days of Christmas?”

The 12 Days of Christmas

Lyrics

On the first day of Christmas my true love sent to me
A partridge in a pear tree.

On the third day of Christmas my true love sent to me Two turtle doves, And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the third day of Christmas my true love sent to me Three French hens,
Two turtle doves, And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the fourth day of Christmas my true love sent to me
Four calling birds
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves, And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the fifth day of Christmas my true love sent to me
Five golden rings
Four calling birds
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves, And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the sixth day of Christmas my true love sent to me
Six geese a laying
Five golden rings
Four calling birds
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves, And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the seventh day of Christmas my true love sent to me
Seven swans a swimming
Six geese a laying
Five golden rings
Four calling birds
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves, And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the eighth day of Christmas my true love sent to me
Eight maids a milking
Seven swans a swimming
Six geese a laying
Five golden rings
Four calling birds
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves, And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the ninth day of Christmas my true love sent to me
Nine ladies dancing
Eight maids a milking
Seven swans a swimming
Six geese a laying
Five golden rings
Four calling birds
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves, And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the tenth day of Christmas my true love sent to me
Ten lords a leaping
Nine ladies dancing
Eight maids a milking
Seven swans a swimming
Six geese a laying
Five golden rings
Four calling birds
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves, And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the eleventh day of Christmas my true love sent to me
Eleven pipers piping
Ten lords a leaping
Nine ladies dancing
Eight maids a milking
Seven swans a swimming
Six geese a laying
Five golden rings
Four calling birds
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves, And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the twelfth day of Christmas my true love sent to me
Twelve drummers drumming
Eleven pipers piping
Ten lords a leaping
Nine ladies dancing
Eight maids a milking
Seven swans a swimming
Six geese a laying
Five golden rings
Four calling birds
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves, And a partridge in a pear tree.

Christmas Memories

Each Christmas season when our adult children were “children”, we used to get together with my sister’s family and we always, absolutely always, had to sing The 12 Days of Christmas.

Each child and adult had their own verse they had to sing. We always went oldest to youngest. Which meant our son or one of my nephews always had the pleasure of singing “FIVE GOLDEN RINGS”. (Can’t you hear their voices cracking?!)

Then there was my sweet little nephew Jonathan who could never remember his verse. I mean never. Every time the song came around to his verse , we would hear, “What’s my line again?”

Oh, man, painful but fun memories!

Are there really 12 days of Christmas?

Did you know that the 12 Days of Christmas was commonly referred to the time beginning with Christmas Day? I’m not sure anyone really knows why or if there’s any real significance to the 12 days.

Typically, my family thinks of it as the 12 days leading up to Christmas Day.

I subscribed a long time ago… but am so frustrated trying to download pdfs that I am on the verge of unsubscribing… there is no earthly reason that one should have to reload a pdf changer when you do not need it… not to mention that the pdf attached to your site is not user friendly nor does it work half of the time… I understand the ads, etc… but we come to your site for your ideas and to use them to enhance our lives… not to go away frustrated…

Kathi, I am so sorry for your frustration. The PDFs that I make available are NOT downloadable directly from my blog. There are some ads that may be misleading (I’ve asked the ad manager to remove these). I also do not have a PDF reader or changer attached to my blog. If you’re asked to download any programs, please don’t. Definitely not a requirement of my blog.
You will find all downloads in the Subscribers Resource Library, which is a shared Google Drive. You can browse or search for items in the Library. Once you find them, you can save them to your own Google Drive (if you use one) or download them to your computer.
Please check your email for the link to the Library near the bottom of every newsletter you receive from The Birch Cottage. That link will take you directly to the Library. Then you can search or browse for the items you want.
Again, thank you for subscribing and I’m truly sorry you had such a frustrating experience. Hopefully this explanation will help.

      Happy Holidays!!

You should find this set of printable gift tags, the ones already shared and the ones to come. Kind of sounds like “A Christmas Carol”, doesn’t it? You know, Christmas past, present and future…
