Did you know that March 20, 2021 is National Quilting Day? It’s a day sponsored by the Quilt Alliance and the National Quilt Museum. 2021 marks the 29th anniversary of National Quilting Day. You can participate by downloading a free copy of the World Piece Quilt Pattern from the Fat Quarter Shop.
So, I thought it would be fun and appropriate to share a round-up of 6 quilt block of the month programs for 2021 that you can easily join. Some of these programs have already started, but that doesn’t really matter. Which is one of the many reasons that these quilting programs are so good. You can join at anytime.

6 Quilt Block of the Month Programs for 2021
I’m sure there are a lot of quilt of the month programs available for free that you can participate in for 2021 and years to come. In fact, if you know of a quilt of the month program that you’d like to see included in my list, please leave the information in the comments below and I’ll be glad to add the information.
Whether you’re new to quilting, just learning to sew or have been quilting for years. There’s something about participating in a quilt of the month program that is so rewarding. A lot of the programs include written tutorials, video instruction and even private Facebook groups that you can join to share your progress, find inspiration and get or receive help along the way.
What is a Block of the Month Program?
What is a Block of the Month Program? A block-of-the-Month program, commonly called BOM, is a quilting club that you can join to make a quilt top in a specified amount of time, usually months. Some programs, like the ones listed here, are free to join and some have a subscription fee.
Of course, you’ll have to purchase fabric or use fabric from your stash, thread, batting and dust off your sewing machine and join one of these fun programs!

Supplies Needed to Participate in a Quilt Block of the Month Program
Depending on the particular quilt block of the month program that you choose to participate in, your supplies list will vary. All of the programs will have a materials, supplies and even an equipment list that will tell you exactly what you need to have on hand to get started with your quilting project.

2021 Quilt Block of the Month Programs to join

Janome Rainbow Quilt Block of the Month 2021
A fun and colorful block of the Month from Janome Maker Carolina Oneto. The final measurements of the quilt are 44”x58” (110 cm x 145 cm). last Tuesday of each month for the next Rainbow Quilt Block of the Month 2021.
Join the Bearadise Quilt Sew Along!
The latest quilt pattern sew-along from Suzy’s Sitcom. Each month beginning March 2021, Suzy will be releasing one block of this “beary” cute and fun quilt pattern absolutely free. Suzy just released Block #1, called “S’mores”.
2021 Block-of-the-Month Quilt: Bright New Day
On the 15th of each month, a new block and a how-to video is released with tips for sewing the
black, as well as possibilities for alternate colorways. The first block was released February 15, 2021. There’s even a private Facebook group where you can share your progress and see what other quilters are making.
My Hometown Free Block of the Month
This fun quilt block of the month offers two colorway options and began in February 2021 and will run through August 2021. New blocks are released the first Monday of each month. You do need to sign up via email in order to participate.
2021 Quilt Block of the Month; All the Hearts Quilt
You will literally be able to “quilt your heart out” while constructing the All the Hearts 2021 Block of the Month quilt pattern from Polkadot Chair. Each pattern is released the 15th of the month and started with the release of the first block on January 15, 2021. The pattern is emailed to you each month if your subscribe or you can purchase the pattern directly from Melissa’s shop.
2021 RBD Block Challenge Patterns | Riley Blake Designs
First block from Amanda of Jedi Craft Girl is called Pinwheel Star. This block was made using Amanda’s fabric collection called Mod Meow.
Some amazing quilters and designers from Riley Blake Designs have joined to make a mystery quilt. The block challenge started February 2, 2021 and ends June 22nd. New block patterns are released every Tuesday, except the last Tuesday of each month for 16 weeks. There will be a 10”x10” quilt block pattern released each week by a different designer. You’ll also find the patterns on the RBD blog here.
