A December to Remember by The Birch Cottage

Today is January 1, 2016 and as I reflect back on December 2015, I can’t help but think this has certainly been a December to remember! So, I wanted to take a few minutes to share with you all the great things that have been happening in my life during December 2015. Besides all the festivities associated with Christmas, we had our sailor daughter home from deployment, our soldier son, his wife and twin daughters home, and a wedding on Christmas Eve!

That’s certainly a December to remember, don’t you think?

USS Essex returns from deployment

First, our daughter Kristen just returned home to San Diego from a seven-month deployment to the Western Pacific region including the ports of Hong Kong, Bahrain and Hawaii. But, before arriving home, Lenny got to participate in a Tiger Cruise on the USS Essex. He flew from Ohio to California where he was transported via an amphibious vehicle from Camp Pendleton to the USS Essex. After spending two days and one night on the ship, he escorted our sailor girl home.

Truly a December to remember!

A Christmas to Remember

Then, just three days after our daughter returned home, our oldest son and his family arrived in Ohio for the Christmas holiday. The twins are five months old now and so full of personality. I just loved on them as much as I possibly could in the short time they were home.

Precious time with family certainly makes this a December to remember!

A December to Remember

Then on Christmas Eve, in the presence of our seven children and three grandchildren, Lenny and I shared our wedding vows. It was the absolute most beautiful moment. We literally held the ceremony in our basement family room in front of the fireplace and Christmas tree. If you’ve been following Our Home Story here on the blog, then you’ll know that we bought the house Lenny grew up in and we’re in the process of remodeling it. We’ve been celebrating Christmases in our basement since purchasing “Nanny’s house”. Our 13-year-old grandson walked me down the stairs and as I turned the corner and saw all seven – 4 girls and 3 boys – of our children standing there holding a long-stemmed daisy and my very handsome and proud Lenny standing in the middle, it was just more precious than my heart could stand.

A wedding on Christmas Eve with all our children present truly makes this a December to remember!

Til next time…
