Would you like to learn how to sew? Come learn all about Hooked on Sewing – the website that puts the fun back in learning to sew.
One of the most popular blog posts on The Birch Cottage blog is a sewing tutorial and pattern I shared on how to sew a reversible microwave safe bowl cozy. I’ve also shared many other sewing tutorials and even a few sewing tips, like how to select a beginner friendly sewing machine.
But, I felt like the sewing tutorials were getting lost amongst all the other craft ideas and recipes on The Birch Cottage blog. And I wanted to do more with sewing. I thought about it for a couple of years actually. Tossing ideas back and forth in my mind and talking them over with my husband about how best to share more sewing ideas.

Sewing as a Struggle
I kept reading over and over again how beginner sewists were so intimidated by their new sewing machine. Or how their new machine that they received for Christmas a year ago (or years ago) is still sitting in the box. Then there are those who bought a sewing machine during the pandemic and are looking for help with growing their sewing skills.
And there are even those who used to watch their grandmother or mother sew and desire to rekindle their sewing interest. Often times as a way to reconnect or give back to those who gave so much to them.
Sewing to Pay it Forward
Truth be told, I fall into the latter category. My mother was an amazing seamstress. I was always in awe of her creations and creativity. She lovingly taught me to sew. And although I lost my mother when I was only 18, she is still very much a part of who I am today.
She was truly the most selfless and giving person I knew. She was a teacher at heart. A patient teacher. She loved life and loved sharing her skills with others. I only hope I can do her memory justice by paying it forward.

Hooked on Sewing
So, I decided to create a new website called Hooked on Sewing, which I launched on November 1, 2021.
Because I believe sewing can be such a rewarding and fun hobby or skill, but too often people are sidetracked due to being overwhelmed, confused or even frustrated.
But, learning to sew should be fun!
Yes, there will be challenges. Yes, it can be frustrating.
But, when you have a readily available resource to help you along the way, it’s a total game changer!
Through Hooked on Sewing, I’m here to help beginner sewists build their sewing confidence. Because, after all, sewing should be fun!
