The Brother HC1850 Computerized Sewing Machine with 185 built-in stitches, it is the best sewing machine priced under $200.
My Sewing Experience
I have been sewing for over 40 years (WOW!). In that time, I've owned several different sewing machines. For the most part, the sewing machines I owned were inexpensive electronic sewing machines. I longed and dreamed about the day I would own a better sewing machine.
Looking back, I should have made it a higher priority to purchase a better quality sewing machine. I would have sewn more and been frustrated a lot less. But, to be fair, sewing machines have come a long way in the past 40 years!
Brother HC1850 Computerized Sewing Machine
Up until recently, the Brother HC1850 was by far the best sewing machine I ever owned. It was a huge upgrade from my previous sewing machine that I had been using for well over 20 years.
The HC1850 is perfect for sewing, quilting, and even basic monogramming! Featuring 185 unique stitches, including 55 alphanumeric sewing stitches for basic monogramming, and 8 styles of one-step buttonholes. This sewing machine also includes a convenient, built-in stitch reference flip-chart, 8 presser feet, push-button stitch selector, adjustable sewing speed, automatic threading system, detachable foot controller, and an exceptional feed system for sewing on almost any fabric.
Specialty quilting features include a detachable wide table, spring action quilting foot, and the ability to do free-motion quilting. The HC1850 is lightweight and portable, and perfect for taking to classes.
Brother HC1850 Features:
This machine gets raving reviews on Amazon and currently sells in the US for under $200. It comes with a limited 25-year warranty. Some of the other features about this sewing machine that I really like and use are:
- drop-in bobbin
- easy bobbin winding
- needle threader (works "okay")
- 8 auto-size buttonholes
- 6 sewing feet
- free arm
- extension table
- feed dog retracts
- 185 built-in stitches (I have NEVER used all of them)
- sew by push button or foot pedal
I also like that the stitching chart (it's like a flip-chart, actually) is located on the front of the machine. All of that and I found it really easy to use.
Included Accessories:
When you purchase the Brother HC1850 Sewing and Quilting Machine, it currently comes with the following accessories:
- wide table
- 8 feet
- instructional DVD
- manual
- foot pedal
- seam ripper
- cleaning brush
- spare bobbins
- spool holder
- screw driver
- sewing needles
- twin needle
Cons:
There are just a couple of things I don't like about the Brother HC1850 Computerized Sewing Machine:
- It's lightweight and dances across the table while I'm sewing at higher speeds. Even with a mat under the sewing machine, there was still a lot of vibration and dancing going on.
- Needle threader doesn't work as easily or as well as I would like.
- It has a small throat and work space.
That's it. As you can see by my very short list of cons, I really like this Brother sewing machine. As of this writing, it has 1,193 reviews with 4.5 stars on Amazon.
Brother HC1850 Bottom Line
If you're looking for an inexpensive sewing machine with some great features, I highly recommend this sewing machine! Like I said, it has 4.5 stars (out of 5) on Amazon. If you'd like more information on this sewing machine, you'll find more features, facts and information on the Brother website.
I hope my experience and review of the Brother HC1850 Computerized Sewing Machine will be helpful to you. If you're considering purchasing a new machine, maybe you'll consider a Brother. Or maybe my list of "cons" will help you to better know what to look for in a sewing machine.
