I was walking through my “local to me” (it’s 65 miles away) JO-ANN Store and browsing through the yarn aisles when I came across the Big Twist Shine yarns. The shade Denim Blue caught my eye first and then Butter Yellow. I just knew I had to crochet something with this color combination.

At first I thought maybe I’d crochet a plaid blanket, but I didn’t find a coordinating blue to go with the lovely Denim Blue. J0-ANN also only had one skein of the Butter Yellow in stock. So, I picked up the skein of Butter Yellow, four skeins of Denim Blue, and four skeins of White.

I wasn’t sure what pattern I would use or what I would make, but I knew I had enough yarn to make “something.” Once I got home, I got out my tablet and pencil and started to mockup a design.

Okay, I had the design. Now to decide on what stitch to use. As I sat here looking out our large window that overlooks the currently frozen and snow covered lake, I knew I wanted to use the Herringbone Half Double Crochet (HHDC) stitch. Why? Because I knew it would produce a warm blanket. Perfect for cool nights on the lake.

As far as the name? I think you can guess where the name came from. We live on a small lake in northern Michigan. So, the name had to be Lakeside. Lakeside would be the perfect crochet blanket for those cold winter evenings and nights spent lakeside!
