Do you ever find yourself wondering if you’ll ever truly be happy? Or wondering how you even find true happiness? I have to admit, that thought used to cross my mind – a lot. You see, I wanted a perfect life and I wanted everything in my life to be perfect. I thought that if everything was perfect, then I would indeed find true happiness.

I’m sharing from a personal place today in hopes of maybe helping someone else learn to find true happiness before they’re 40 years old. Plus, if you hang around until the end of the post, you’ll see there are some nice free printable 8×10 prints in it for you!

When you’re a young parent (and I’m speaking from experience), life can seem pretty stressful and overwhelming. I had friends who seemed to have it all together. Their children were perfectly dressed and well-mannered. Their homes were immaculate and their lawns impeccably manicured. They even managed to go on some amazing family vacations. All with a smile on their faces!

I envied these perfect friends of mine. I thought if I had what they had that I would be happy. I mean after all, what’s wrong with wanting a clean house, perfectly behaved children and all the trimmings? The problem is that I was constantly comparing myself to other people and falling short. I was never going to find true happiness because it was always just out of reach. If I just had a new house. Or maybe a min-van. Or a new suit. Or if I had a housekeeper. Or if Joanna Gaines would come decorate my home…..

You see, the problem with basing your happiness on things and comparing yourself to other people is that you will never find happiness that way. It will always leave you feeling empty and like whatever you have is just not quite enough.

How to Find True Happiness

Do you know where true happiness comes from? It comes from you! It comes from your attitude about you and your life. It comes from truly letting go of those unrealistic expectations you put on yourself and being content with who you are and where you are in life. True happiness comes from contentment. True contentment.

When I saw this quote somewhere from Joanna Gaines, I knew I had to share it with you. You see, I can’t tell you if Joanna Gaines has truly found true happiness or contentment, but I can tell you that this quote of hers speaks truth. Volumes of truth.

It’s up to us to choose contentment and thankfulness and to stop imagining that we have to have everything perfect before we’ll be happy.

You know friends, life isn’t perfect. I’m not perfect. You’re not perfect. Perfection doesn’t bring happiness. True happiness comes from contentment and true contentment comes from within.
