How to Hand-paint Letters on Wood

It’s spring in Ohio and we had a few days of nice sunny weather, followed by quite a few days of rain, clouds and much cooler weather. But, those few days of sunshine, were just enough to get me outdoors and hungry for warm weather. I was even able to work on a couple of furniture refinishing projects. How cool is that?  Well, my daughter who was home (today’s her last day) visiting before her Pacific Ocean deployment, is also quite the crafter at heart. She discovered this hand-painted wood box and is in love with it. She even has the colors picked out for her box – teal and blue. So, I thought I’d put together a “How to Hand-Paint Letters on Wood” tutorial when I discovered there are already lots of tutorials available.

First, I came across The Farmer’s Wife tutorial here on how to hand-paint fancy letters:

Then I found Upcycled Treasurer’s tutorial on hand-painting a family established wooden sign here.

Saved by Love Creations has an awesome tutorial here on making a distressed hand-painted sign:

Then there’s That’s My Letter’s “P is for Personalize” tutorial on How to Hand-Paint Letters on Wood here.

I’ll be trying this last technique as featured by That’s My Letter on an adorable step stool that my Lenny’s making for our expectant twin granddaughters. Can’t wait to share the step stool with you because I think it’s just way beyond adorable!

Of course, you can find everything you need at your local hobby, craft, superstore, or online at Amazon.

I just love these signs and the rustiness of some of them. I have always wanted to do one but didn’t think I could manage the lettering….Now I can! Thanks so much for the insights.

I really like them as well. My daughter already has an order in so I guess we’ll be working on a project for her.
