I entered the KitchenAid 100 Anniversary giveaway and I won a Limited Edition KitchenAid Heritage Artisan® Series Model K 5 Quart Tilt-Head Stand Mixer!

I still am in disbelief that I actually won a Limited Edition KitchenAid Heritage Artisan® Series Model K 5 Quart Tilt-Head Stand Mixer ! Here’s my winning story…

Way back in November, KitchenAid® announced that it was hosting a giveaway to commemorate the upcoming 100 Year Anniversary of its iconic stand mixer. To enter the giveaway, you simply had to post a photo on Instagram of your favorite memory making moment in the kitchen. Then tag the post with #MakingHistory100 and #SweepstakesUS for a chance to win.

They were giving away 100 of their 100 Anniversary Limited Edition Heritage Artisan Series Stand Mixers to 100 very lucky winners. And I wanted to be one of those winners.

I figured there would be hundreds of thousands, if not millions of entries, but what the heck. Just like with the lottery, you can’t win if you don’t play. So, I decided to enter the contest.

I wasn’t hopeful because I absolutely do not win things. I’m just not that lucky! Ever!

Favorite Memory Making Moment in the Kitchen

So, I shared my favorite memory making moment in the kitchen of baking cookies with my granddaughters. Honestly, I have several favorite memory making moments in the kitchen. But, my most memorable moments in the kitchen involve my grandchildren.

We have six grandchildren, including twin granddaughters. There is nothing quite like spending time in the kitchen with them helping them to bake something for their Papa or their dad or just for fun.

I hope that when they are older they will have fond memories of our time spent together in the kitchen.

Special Cookies

One time, when Nathaniel, Skyler and Payton were all just under the age of 5, we were baking cookies for their daddy in my kitchen. Each of them were standing on step stools or chairs so they could reach the counter. Payton, the youngest, kept dropping cookie dough on the floor.

Never fear. She would climb down, pick the dough up off the floor and put it back into the bowl she was very proudly stirring. She did this numerous times. I thought it was hilarious and precious.

Of course, we baked the cookies anyway. When Payton’s cookies came out of the oven, I told her daddy that those were very special cookies that he might want to save for later. He proudly ate them anyway.

Contest Comes to an End

So, I entered the contest back in the early part of November 2018. I believe KitchenAid was supposed to announce their winners sometime around Thanksgiving. I kept checking Instagram for any kind of notice or announcement, but nothing.

Finally, on December 3, 2018, I received the following message via Instagram from KitchenAid:

Congratulations! You are a potential winner in the KitchenAid 100 Year Celebration Making Memories Sweepstakes! Please respond to this Direct Message with 24 hours with your email, address, full name and shipping address and date of birth confirmation that you are at least 18 years of age.

I responded to the message an hour past 24 hours. I couldn’t believe it. My heart totally sunk in my stomach and I felt physically ill. How could this happen? I’m on Instagram ALL the time and I just then saw the message from KitchenAid.

I was beyond disappointed. Here, the girl who never wins anything, had just “potentially” won a KitchenAid Stand Mixer only I missed the response time by an hour? Seriously!

Did I mention I’m not lucky?!

Of course, I responded anyway. Twice! The first time, I simply provided the information they requested. The second time, I acknowledged that fact that I didn’t respond in 24 hours and again provided the information they requested. However, I’m pretty positive the message wasn’t posted when it was time stamped. (I’ve seen that happen a lot.)

Dead Silence

I didn’t receive a response, acknowledgement or even words of condolences from KitchenAid after I replied to the “potential winner” message. So, I messaged them to check on the status. No response.

Just about every day, I searched Instagram to find out if KitchenAid or other winners had posted anything about the contest. Finally, I found where a couple of people posted pictures that they had won. I cried.

When I told my husband and children what had happened and I was just really sad. I cried all day. Here I almost won and I messed it up by not responding in time. I just knew what a blessing winning something like the KitchenAid Stand Mixer would mean to my family.

And I blew it! I was down about it for days. I think it meant so much to me because, one, I never win anything and two, this stand mixer kind of stands for what Lenny and I believe in – Creating opportunities to make memories that will be cherished for a lifetime.

Special Delivery December 26, 2018

Our grandson Jordan was flying up from Florida to spend about 10 days with us over his Christmas break. He had ordered some gifts for his Ohio friends and had them delivered via Amazon to our house.

Of course, the Remo and Zoey started barking that morning when the FedEx driver approached our house. I asked my husband if he was expecting a delivery from FedEx and he said no, but Jordan is. So, I was pretty sure it was Jordan’s box of Christmas gifts for his friends.

I walked out onto the front porch and as I approached the large box, it seemed a little odd to me. When did Amazon stop shipping items in the Amazon labeled boxes? I lifted the box and it seemed kind of heavy.

Why does the box say KitchenAid instead of Amazon? I sat the box down on the couch (it’s closest to the front door) and looked at the label. It was from KitchenAid USA to Pamela Baker. What?! From KitchenAid?! Pamela Baker? That’s me!

I again looked at the box and read the label – over and over! Then I started yelling for my husband and my daughter (aka sailor girl) to come see what I won! I was carrying on like I had just won the Mega Millions Ohio Lottery! No lie! I laughed, yelled, cried, laughed and cheered.

All this for a KitchenAid Heritage Artisan® 100 Anniversary Stand Mixer? You bet! I’m still pretty excited and I continue to tell everyone I know that I won a KitchenAid Stand Mixer.

To borrow a line from A Christmas Story, “It’s a major award!

KitchenAid Heritage Artisan® 100 Anniversary Stand Mixer

I call her Misty Blue. It seems appropriate. Her color is actually called Misty Blue and she’s quite beautiful. My family laughs and occasionally one of the kids will ask, “Mom, what’s your mixer’s name?” And I proudly tell them, “Misty Blue.”

I’ve already put her to good use, mixing, baking and experimenting. Some of the things Misty Blud and I have made are:

Our daughter Morgan, who has her grandmother’s KitchenAid Stand Mixer, has even used my new mixer. Morgan, by the way, is an amazing baker. Her specialty? Cupcakes and cakes. She’s really into beautifully decorated cakes and mastering homemade buttercream frosting. I’ll have to share some of her work with you!

If you’re interested in buying a special 100 Anniversary KitchenAid Stand Mixer, you can buy your very own. In fact, I happened to notice the price has been reduced recently. As of the writing of this post, she’s available from KitchenAid or on Amazon for $319.99.

You’ll find more information on the 100 Anniversary here. And view the entire 100 Anniversary Collection from KitchenAid here.

I’m sure Misty Blue will be making many more appearances here on The Birch Cottage blog and on Instagram. By the way, if you’re on Instagram, I’d love it if you would follow me @birchcottageblog!

Til next time…
