Take the guesswork out of stain treatment with this free set of printable laundry care tags. Hang the tags in your laundry room for quick access!
When our son is home from college, he does his own laundry. But, he’ll often ask me how to treat certain types of laundry stains. There’s nothing more frustrating than getting a stain on your favorite shirt!
So, to take the guesswork out of treating the most common type of laundry stains, I created these printable laundry care tags. I’ve actually laminated the tags, punched a hole in them and strung them on a 1″ binder ring. That binder ring hangs on a magnetic hook right on the front of our washer.

I thought since I created these laundry care tags for use in my home, that maybe they’d be beneficial to you! I could easily see using these laundry care tags as a resource to teach your children how to do laundry and, more importantly, how to care for their clothes properly so they last longer!
How to Treat Common Laundry Stains

I’ve included laundry care tags for the four most common types of stains:
- Grass
- Red Wine
- Blood
- Coffee/Tea
How to Treat Grass Stains
- Pretreat with a stain remover.
- For machine washable fabrics: Launder using hottest water safe for fabric.
- For non-washable fabrics: Apply diluted white vinegar to the stain only. Rinse with cool water.
How to Treat Red Wine Stains
- Blot red wine stain with clean, dry cloth right away.
- For machine washable fabrics: Cover the stain with salt. Pour boiling water onto the stain. Launder as usual. If stain persists, apply diluted white vinegar to the stain. Rinse under cool running water. Launder again.
- For non-washable fabrics: Apply diluted white vinegar to the stain. Rinse under cool running water.
How to Treat Coffee/Tea Stains
- Sponge with cold water right away, if possible.
- For machine washable fabrics: Soak fresh stains in cold water. Pretreat with a prewash stain remover. Launder with bleach or color-safe bleach.
- For non-washable fabrics: Apply diluted white vinegar to the stain only. Rinse with cool water.
How to Treat Blood Stains
- Sponge with cold water right away, if possible.
- For machine washable fabrics: Soak fresh stains in cold water, then launder as usual. Pretreat dried stains with a prewash stain remover or soak in warm water with a pretreatment that contains enzymes.
- For non-washable fabrics: Rinse stain under cold running water. Apply diluted white vinegar to the stain only. Rinse with cool water.
