In honor of Taco Tuesday, I thought I’d share with you my recipe for taco seasoning. But, first, it’s confession time here at The Birch Cottage….
I just love the taste and aroma of cumin. Seriously. You add a little bit of cumin to soup, meat, sauces or dips and yum! I like it so much that I always make my own homemade taco seasoning. This taco seasoning recipe starts with the star of the show – ground cumin!
I’m sure that once you’ve made homemade taco seasoning, you’ll wonder why you ever bothered with the packets, cans or bottles of seasoning.
A little bit of cumin, paprika, onion powder, ground oregano, cayenne pepper and garlic powder.
Plus, an added bonus of the homemade recipe for taco seasoning? No artificial ingredients or preservatives!
Just double, triple, or quadruple the recipe, put all the mixed ingredients in a sealed container and store in the refrigerator (the paprika will thank you for keeping it uber fresh).
Then, when you’re ready to use, just start with 1 or 2 tablespoons of your seasoning mix and adjust per your taste preference.
It just doesn’t get much easier, fresher or tastier than this! Simply measure all your spices into a bowl and whisk to combine. You can pour the seasoning mix into a spice jar or Mason jar for storing. One little tip…. keep the taco seasoning refrigerated for optimum freshness (the paprika will thank you). Of course, when I make this seasoning, it doesn’t seem to last long enough to worry about refrigerating it.
Taco Seasoning Recipe
- 2 tablespoons paprika
- 2 teaspoons oregano
- 1½ teaspoons cumin
- 1½ teaspoons garlic powder
- ¾ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper omit or increase to taste
- Place all ingredients in a bowl.
- Blend thoroughly.
- Store in airtight container in the refrigerator. The parika will thank you for keepign it fresh!
