I think these vintage airplane illustrations would just make the perfect wall decor for a boy’s bedroom or even your husband’s den. My dad’s birthday is May 8th, so in celebration of his birthday, I’ve put together this collection of free printable vintage illustrations.
Masculine Art Prints
I’ve been intentionally trying to create and share more prints that are a little more masculine, such as these masculine art prints, the 2018 Space Travel Calendars and these vintage map inspired gift tags.
I even had some old patents printed using Staples print service. The prints I had made are these huge 24×36 engineering prints. Funny story. I had some of these prints made as Christmas gifts for our son who just happens to be a tuba performance major in college. Come Christmas, I could not find the prints that I so cleverly hid a couple of months prior. Still haven’t found them. So, I had some new ones printed just this week.
History Behind the Airplane or Aeroplane Prints
Anyway, as we werepreparing for the birth of our grandson the early part of April this year, I couldn’t help but think about what types of things would make for cute decor in a baby boy’s room that is applicable to a baby and that he can grow into. My first thought was vintage sport illustrations. Then I thought maybe trains. Then I did a little searching of the NYPL’s Digital Collection library and came across all these vintage airplane prints. Perfect!
These vintage airplane prints were actually cigarette cards. Cards dating back to the late 1800’s were inserted into cigarette packs by tobacco manufacturers to protect the cigarettes from being crushed. It didn’t take long until they realized they could use this space for advertising. Advertising sports, actors, actresses, clowns and airplanes (to name a few).
How to Print
These prints aren’t the highest quality prints because they were images of small cards. I’ve downloaded them at the highest resolution available and then made very minor adjustments to them so that they would print out nicely to fit an 8×10 frame.
Wouldn’t they be adorable grouped together in a little wall gallery in a baby boy’s bedroom? It’s the type of decor that can actually grow with your child.
